BY THE RIVER GURA WE SAT DOWN AND WEPT ….. Don’t know why but am reading it over and over again 😁😁💕 soo well summarized putting into consideration i also know River Gura …
Laban –
It was simple,
It was interesting,
It was Kenyan,
It’s detailed.
My personal favorite is River Gura. & Of men and lions.
Though I felt like you should have found a better ending to some of the stories. E. G disco matanga. Paper moon.
I didn’t find the maps/pictures necessary.
At least they should have been colored.
In the Gura river, say ‘some men’ not ‘Men’ in general.
174 page typo ” Dad and uncle are still organizing …. ”
*the dad is dead and buried.
First pages are harder to read on the edges.

I would have read this book earlier, but as soon as I arrived home with it, Wambui claimed it, and it has been resident in her school bag for over a month. And it was given back to me while rather weather-beaten 😂😂. I can’t even be mad.
If you are reading Alex for the first time in this book, you wouldn’t be able to pick his style because he is quite fluid – each story is woven differently. Also, he becomes a man, a woman, young, old, voluptuous, skinny, Kenyan, Nigerian, Ethiopian, politician, diplomat, activist – name it, you have it. The most impressive for me was the amount of research he put in these stories, and when we next sit for coffee, I will ask him if he is as well travelled as his book.
Also, he writes some ‘naughty’ things, which made me giggle because you see, I know Alex. He’s soft-spoken, and wears suits. How can he know some of the ‘bad manners’ I was reading?
It’s always the quiet ones🤣

I enjoyed reading all the stories in Disco Matanga. Most of your stories in the book brings out what really happens in our society. Once you finish one story you are tempted to continue reading the next one…I cannot wait to get hold of another book you have authored. Mr Nderitu is indeed a skillful writer.

What a book and a half it is.
This anthology of stories is unputdownable. Of all the interesting stories, I find ‘DISCO MATANGA’ as the best of all. I enjoyed how the author brought the creativity aspect in it. Nderitu must be gifted.
I am lucky to have read his two books,
WHEN THE WHIRL WIND PASSES and DISCO MATANGA.

“Disco Matanga is a catchy name, but more catchy are the romantic stories in the book.
The author knows how to weave a web of words that get you drooling, creating vivid mental pictures as you flip the pages.
Mr Nderitu has put in work, on creating the 10 African love stories.
A Kenyan by birth, it is fascinating how the man describes any part of the world like the back of his hand.”
