Brief Summary
This dictionary has been produced specifically as a resource for foreign learners of Sudanese Arabic. The language is spoken in Khartoum and throughout most of the Republic of Sudan, but it is essentially an unwritten language, since Modern Standard Arabic is almost always used for written communications. Foreigners therefore do not find it easy to learn the spoken language, though some course books do exist.
So this dictionary will be invaluable for both beginning language learners and those who have already made progress in learning the language. It should supply all the vocabulary needed for everyday conversations and many working situations. Rianne Tamis holds an M.A. in Semitic Languages from the Catholic University of Nijmegen. Kikamba Dictionary -osa Vinya Mukamba. The Kamba /ˈkæmbə/ language, or Kikamba, is a Bantu language spoken by the Kamba people of Kenya. It is spoken by 5,000 people in Tanzania (Thaisu).
The Kamba language has lexical similarities to other Bantu languages such as Kikuyu, Meru, and Embu.
In Kenya, Kamba is generally spoken in 4 out of the forty-seven Counties of Kenya. These counties are Machakos, Kitui and Makueni. The Machakos variety is considered the standard variety of the three dialects and has been used in the translation of the Bible
Gikuyu Oral Literature by Wanjiku Mukabi Kabira and Karega wa Mutahi
This book offers an intimate initiation into the oral literature of the Agikuyu people of Kenya. The authors offer examples of oral narratives, proverbs, songs, riddles and poetry collected from live performances, many of which they have themselves participated in. The examples are rendered both in the Gikuyu language of performance and in the English translation.
The authors have succeeded in conveying the atmosphere of the actual performance by remaining faithful to the conversational language of narration or recitation. Each narrative, even when very much a part of a commonly-held tradition, comes out with the originality of the performance of a particular, individual artist. And the songs are presented as they have been sang for particular occasions - by individualized singers who express a cultural and value world through a particularized mood and emotion.
The authors also feature quite prominently the performance of two gicandi artists. Gicandi is a uniquely Gikuyu artform - a poetry recited to the accompaniment of the music of the gicandi instrument.
With its good examples, lucid and stimulating discussion as well as questions that provoke thought, this book is an ideal support book for the secondary school and university oral literature programmes.
Enchengeria EkeGusii Dictionary: A Complete EkeGusii Trilingual Dictionary
This is a complete EkeGusii-Kiswahili-English dictionary that provides definitions for EkeGusii words. The work has been compiled for over fourteen years of collecting lexemes from the native speakers of the language. The respondents, who provided the raw data, range from former teachers of EkeGusii as a mother tongue to indigenous knowledge experts in the Gusii community. Linguists with expertise in lexicography, phonetics, and translation and interpretation, drawn from the Linguistics department, Kisii University, worked on the technical details. Herein lies the uniqueness of this work: it presents more than mere definitions of word tokens. This edition serves as a template for further exploration, future expansion, and development of orthographic conventions in the language.

Tuki English Swahili Dictionary
TUKI English - Swahili Dictionary is the most up to date dictionary of current English. It is published after more than a century since Madan published the first English - Swahili Dictionary in 1894, and half a century since Johnson (1939) was published. Johnson (1939) English - Swahili Dictionary, hitherto the most elaborate and authoritative dictionary, was compiled with the objective of helping the user to comprehend English texts.
With the changing needs of a dictionary user, a new dictionary was necessary for two reasons : (1) to record new words and new meanings of words which the language acquired during the last 55 years, and (2) to provide some lexicographical information that current dictionary users need.
TUKI English-Swahili Dictionary was written with this background. It's vocabulary covers a wide range of lexicon that includes both the general language and specialized language. It should however be emphasized that technical words which have been entered in this dictionary are only those which appear in the general language although they still belong to the specialized fields.
English as a world language is not always used the same way throughout the English world. It has some variations in form and meaning of words which are specific to one region or country. The language has also some words that suggest a particular style, attitude or level of formality. It has words which have been borrowed from other languages in recent years. This dictionary provides adequate information about some of these aspects so as to alert the user on when and where a word can or cannot be used and the connotation it may have to the audience.
