Hon Eng Muriuki Karue, the author, is a professional engineer who served as the Member
of Parliament for Olkalou Constituency in Nyandarua County and later served as the
Senator for the county that is located in the farmland region of the central highlands of
Kenya. The book is a sampling of episodes that give a picture of the author’s life as a typical Member of Parliament in a rural setting.
During his tenure, he maintained a keen interest in the electorate with an attitude to try address issues that came his way. While some of the tales are just light moments in everyday life as an MP, others are harrowing experiences that the people sometimes
go through in the society and the MP is invariably drawn in to intervene. A few reflect on intrigues in Parliament and the Kenyan political space. Others bring out the failure by the authorities to protect vulnerable citizens against machinations by crafty characters
in a corrupt system badly skewed against the ordinary person.
It is an insight into the other side of the job of a people’s representative in a developing country, alongside legislative duties in Parliament.
John Mbugua –
A good book in deed. Captivating tales of an MP in Kenya.
