The author, a well-known Kenyan journalist, and a former detainee, sets his novel in an un-named African country ruled by the Illustrious One - a paranoiac despot. When he demands a crackdown on dissidents, the director of the special police must please him with arrests and detentions. Two of the suspects, a bank employee and a newspaper reporter, are denounced to the authorities, and detained. What follows is a story of Kafkaesque horror, following the men through the dungeons and torture chambers hidden in the capital of a nation masquerading as civil society. The novel enjoyed instant bestseller success in Kenya.

Bruce Momanyi is a 41-year-old man on a good run: great job, huge perks, and an outwardly enviable Kenyan upper-middle-class family. However, one fatal trip to Facebook pokes holes in his illusion of a neat and well-organized family; there is a ghost in his closet, and it is big. Quick, thick, and fast, his life and that of his family take unpredictable forms. For him, it is disillusionment, pain, and sex that punctuate his next phase of life as he ventures into an incessant search for healing and love until he finds love again in a hot 22-year-old who drowns him in love. Reviews Sexorcised is Nyanchwani at his salacious best as a storyteller, serving a side salad of a story that sticks to one like a delicious sin. Tony Mochama, Author, 2063: Last Mile Bet, columnist at The Standard. Sexorcised is the mountain where love dies Where lovers come to heal, and we all come home to ourselves Wounded. Cut. Broken. The novel opens with the Introduction of Martin Were to the audience. Martin is presented as a member of the educated middle working class in the Kenyan society and is in every way, a perfect depiction of young man with a successful life laid before him. Paulina Akelo, who is barely out of her teens, and wife to Martin Were, is also presented at the beginning of the novel. She is presented as being naive and ignorant to the ways of ‘the city’. The story-line of the novel follows the life of this young couple, who experience the ups and downs of marriage life with childlessness being the main negatively-impacting force on their marriage. The Story of Martin and Paulina runs along that of political developments in Kenya as a young nation. The nation goes through political upheavals, which are mainly characterized by the assassination of key governing figures in the then ruling government. The downturns experienced by Kenya as a country are more or less similar to those experienced by Martin and Paulina in their marriage union. In the story, Paulina is seen to develop from the naive and ignorant lady she was at the beginning of the novel, into a confident and well informed individual, capable of voicing her stand in what she believes in.

This collection is a compilation of his early writing full of potential, displaying his roaming and roving eyes at work. This anthology hints at the sardonic humour that would eventually characterize his writing.
