This famous story of man's progress through life in search of salvation remains one of the most entertaining allegories of faith ever written. Set against realistic backdrops of town and country, the powerful drama of the pilgrim's trials and temptations follows him in his harrowing journey to the Celestial City. Along a road filled with monsters and spiritual terrors, Christian confronts such emblematic characters as Worldly Wiseman, Giant Despair, Talkative, Ignorance, and the demons of the Valley of the Shadow of Death. But he is also joined by Hopeful and Faithful. An enormously influential 17th-century classic, universally known for its simplicity, vigor, and beauty of language, The Pilgrim's Progress remains one of the most widely read books in the English language.

The Making Of A Symphony Orchestra &#...

The subject of leadership has been written all the years by both big and small names, in large and small prints. Why, then, would I bother to write another book on this subject? Why would one need to read this book? Perhaps in the following few paragraphs I will be able to make a case for this inspired cause and thus gain your most precious audience. "Running away from a problem does not solve it," one of my teachers said. "You must confront the problem in order to solve it." In my childhood, I learnt the value of taking responsibility whenever there was something that needed to be addressed. These were my first leadership lessons. In that case, therefore, in my study and practice, I still felt a sense of responsibility to add my little voice to this very important subject, even if doing so could only help a single individual to be inspired into becoming the person The Creator intended in him or her. This book, over and above learning leadership, helps people to identify their purpose in life and unify it with their leadership agenda with a view of leaving a timeless legacy. Life therefore becomes one adventurous journey of leadership to all who study this book. Of course, the very first person that you ought to lead is yourself and by being able to appropriately do so, you earn the right to lead others too. They, themselves, shall be willing to be led by you. In this book, I share personal life experiences in leadership in the simplest possible language for leaders at all levels to draw maximum benefit from. My innate drive to keenly and reflectively study situations from every facet of life I get involved in and my love for music found an opportunity to converge. Thus, this book uses the metaphor of orchestral music to share salient leadership lessons that would hitherto stay hidden from some people. This is not a music book. It is a leadership book. You do not have to know music in order to appreciate it. All you have to do is contemplatively tap your right foot to its beats as you drink from its priceless pot of knowledge. As life would have it, the universe is full of music. All around us is music in the sense of harmony. The Creator did not intend any chaos, but harmony in all we see and do. That is what makes music; many parts, many instruments, many participants but one beautiful piece of art that is pleasing to the ear. The same applies in all our leadership positions. We have to bring all pieces together in order to achieve the envisioned results. That is the language of life. Whoever makes the best symphony becomes the greatest leader;- the greatest director for the orchestra. It is my belief that you will enjoy the musicality in this leadership book as you dutifully mine the nuggets of wisdom that lurk within the pages into your life. The lessons you are going to learn by studying it shall forever remain imprinted in your heart and positively contribute to your immortality. I wish you all the best in your leadership endeavors and look forward to receiving feedback from you about how this book impacted your life.

An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen

KShs800.00 KShs650.00
An Enemy of the People explores political and environmental issues in the Norwegian society of the 1880's in a manner that depicts the true state of affairs in any society of the modem world. Dr. Stockmann, a Medical Officer attached to the Council overseeing the Baths project, brushes everyone the wrong way when he sticks to his view that the whole project is a 'whited sepulchre'; a contaminated source of disease and corruption. His obstinacy pits him against all the political and democratic forces in the town. The play is a clash of ideas that succinctly lays bare the hypocritical underbelly of the modern society, and how truth and integrity are trampled underfoot in the name of democracy.

The effects of traditionally defined masculinity have become one of the most prevalent social issues of our time. In this engaging and provocative new book, beloved actor, director, and social activist Justin Baldoni reflects on his own struggles with masculinity. With insight and honesty, he explores a range of difficult, sometimes uncomfortable topics including strength and vulnerability, relationships and marriage, body image, sex and sexuality, racial justice, gender equality, and fatherhood. Writing from experience, Justin invites us to move beyond the scripts we’ve learned since childhood and the roles we are expected to play. He challenges men to be brave enough to be vulnerable, to be strong enough to be sensitive, to be confident enough to listen. Encouraging men to dig deep within themselves, Justin helps us reimagine what it means to be man enough and in the process what it means to be human.

Rwanda Inc: How a Devastated Nation B...

Eighteen years after the genocide that made Rwanda international news, but left it all but abandoned by the West, the country has achieved a miraculous turnaround. Rising out of the complete devastation of a failed state, Rwanda has emerged on the world stage yet again-this time with a unique model for governance and economic development under the leadership of its strong and decisive president, Paul Kagame. Here, Patricia Crisafulli & Andrea Redmond look at Kagame's leadership, his drive for excellence and execution that draws comparisons to an American CEO and emphasizes the development of a sophisticated and competitive workforce that leverages human capital. In Rwanda, the ultimate turnaround, strong and effective leadership has made a measurable and meaningful difference. Rwanda's progress offers an example for other developing nations to lift themselves out of poverty without heavy reliance on foreign aid through decentralization, accountability, self-determination, and self-sufficiency. The authors also explore Rwanda's journey toward its goal of becoming a middle-income nation with a technology-based economy, and its progress to encourage private sector development and foster entrepreneurship, while also making gains in education, healthcare, and food security-and all with a strong underpinning of reconciliation and unification. As so many nations stand on the brink of political and economic revolution, this is a timely and fascinating look at the implications of Rwanda's success for the rest of the continent-and the world.

The Return of the Sun by Kevin Omwanza

The Return of the Sun explores the immorality of slavery with partakers offering excuses in support of the brutal practice. The author elicits questions on how to end the practice: by supplanting the captors or forging a new, more inclusive, path. The islands, home to most African communities, are breeding grounds for pirates who defend against invaders or are out to enslave others. An African king and slave trader, Jabari, is cruel to neighbouring communities, as a result of which his son and heir to the throne, Shaka, is abducted. Shaka's mother later flees on account of her husband's callousness.Zola, while searching for her brother, gets abducted by Charlie's pirates. Charlie falls in love with her, but she promises to marry him when Charlie frees Shaka. Enchanted, Charlie agrees. Shaka leaves, planning to return and save all his people. Meanwhile, Tendai, a slave who grew up in Jabari's palace, realizes that the king orphaned him at an early age. He joins Black Caesar, a black pirate focused on ending slavery. Caesar desires to entrench African civilization through the revival of Egyptian civilization. He has an island where he settles freed Africans and maintains a critical attitude towards Shaka who, though perceived as saviour by his people, practices slavery. In a party that paves way for Charlie's marriage to Zola, Caesar lays siege that portends uncertainties!

Where to Begin by Cleo Wade

Where to Begin is a collection of the ideas, mantras, and poems I turn to when I feel like I am losing it. I wrote this so that I could put them all in one place when I felt overwhelmed by worry, fear, anxiety, or helplessness. The words in this book are what stop me from walking away from the problems of the world during tough times. They also help me stay connected to hope during difficult moments and remind me that even on the days that feel the most daunting, I still have the power to show up and do something, somewhere, in some way. Change-making comes in all sizes. It doesn’t always have to be one big gesture or nothing. As my friend Jenna often says, “The big stuff is the small stuff.” Your big life is made up of a collection of all of your small moments. Our big world is a made up of a collection of all of our small actions. This book is about where to begin.

And O the lofty blowing of the horns At various stations of the homeward journey When the horn-bearers suddenly – Blared their message to the mountain Sounded their object to the plains Announced their cause to the sunset Declared their purpose to the sunrise – Bv…..u! Bv…..u! Bv…..u! Bv……………u! Signifying that in the sundry homesteads Of the candidates returning from afar, An impending deed was to be done – That would never be undone or done again! This is the apex of Wangusa’s poetic career to date. As a category, the work is characterised by being phenomenally rooted in indigenous culture. And besides being strongly lyrical, it is dynamic, dramatic poetry. There are here multiple voices, various personas in life’s problematic arena. It is poetry not to be just recited but to be performed for maximum effect.

Traditional Marriage in Gusii

KShs800.00 KShs700.00
Traditional Marriage in Gusii (Enyangi y’Ebitinge), published posthumously, documents the process of old-style marriage in Gusii and related steps, culminating in a wedding ceremony. The process was meticulous and made of a series of steps, each with very clear purpose and intended not just for the couple but also their families and clans. Abagusii attached a lot of value to marriage. It was a major landmark in the ‘growing up’ of a man or woman in that society. Marriage marked the transition from the care of one’s parents to being independent and taking care of oneself and one’s family. That transition was possible only after marriage. The importance of marriage and the honour it was accorded is underlined by the respect that was given to a married woman. For example, she found herself late in getting home by someone, that person had an obligation to ensure that she got to her home safely; after all, she was a mother and her progeny would be the link to the future.
