Through sharing my story on the journey within, healing the wounds I didn't know I had till I wrote this, becoming at home in this body, I hope you gain the courage in these pages to return back to yourself and build this home in you too. The Blissabyss

KShs1,600.00 KShs1,500.00
The Blissabyss depicts the contradictions inherent in human life and its vulnerability to negative trajectories. Save for Nancy, Eugene, Fresha, and Brenda are idealistic in their youth. As they mature, they come to terms with a world with little room for ideals. Driven by ambition to succeed, Eugene reveals his plans to everyone only to encounter many obstacles on his journey to success. When his brother, Soita attempts to murder him, Eugene comes to terms with his delusions about being strong. Deprived of love and family, his tethers to idealism snap, and he drinks and spends in Nancy’s room contradicting his moral principles. After a fantastic love affair with Frank, Fresha loses her chastity. Eugene would have continued in his chosen destructive path without Professor Mukabi’s intervention. The author’s message: a supportive social environment is the sole prescription to mitigate the weaknesses ingrained in human nature. What Others Say “The characters in The Blissabyss represent a society at a crossroads with individuals seeking to find their feet and place in the face of shifting identities and generational transformations. Their interactions and experiences at the university cast aspersions on their long-held beliefs and open them to new vistas of a future that are substantially different from what they have been made to believe. These young characters act as a link betweewn the age-old beliefs and the future possibilities which need a sincere and rational engagement devoid of misconceptions and half-truths. This they do with varying degrees of success.” - Dr Maurice S Mwichuli, Lecturer, Literary Studies, Kenyatta University “In The Blissabyss, Andrew Nyongesa uses elegant, contemplative language with a mix of poetic imagery and emotional depth. The text is rich and expressive creating vivid images of the settings. The description helps the readers to visualize the characters’ inner worlds and their interactions.” - Juliet Achieng’, Editor, Nsemia Inc.

Jimnah Albert Muchene is a rare gem in Kenya's Aviation Industry. In this equally rare book. He gives invaluable inside knowledge of how the Aviation Industry should be run, pitfalls to avoid, and most importantly, what it takes to run a successful and profitable Airline. Jimnah strongly believes that the success or failure of any Airline largely depends on two things: Good timekeeping and Excellent in-fight services offered by flight attendants. From his humble beginnings as ground personnel with Kenya Airways in 1978, he rose Albert reluctantly to become one of the most decorated flight attendants in Kenya Airways' history. In a career span of nearly four decades, Jimnah retired with full honors from Kenya Airways in 2016. For three years; in 2011,2014 and 2015 he won the coveted Kenya Airways Best Flight Attendant Award of the Year, in a field of over 800 flight attendants. He has since continued to offer consultancy services to emerging Airlines and Aviation Colleges within the Eat African Region.

Following the arrival of the white man, many Kenyan communities abandoned their cultures and embraced Western ways. Using cunning, trickery and coercion, the white man was able to get Africans to turn their backs on their own cultures. Early colonists knew that if Africans remained steadfast to their cultures, they would find it extremely to control them. As a result, Africans cultures were labeled primitive and backward. And soon, the core of African culture - religion - was attacked. Once the African embraced the Western Religion, it became quite easy to submit to the white man. Education and salvation became the new symbols of status and power. This book, Mũtiiri Mũtaarani, is written in Kikuyu and focuses on the traditional customs and beliefs of the Agîkûyû community - Joseph Ngunjiri - (Sunday Nation 18.03.2012

Kenyatta Otieno has published his second book; *Kavirondo: The story of Luhyas and Luos*. KAVIRONDO is a masterful 338-page narrative that intricately weaves the shared history, culture, and evolution of the Luo and Luhya communities. Through a blend of vivid storytelling and meticulous historical analysis, the book unravels the intertwined destinies of these two groups, examining how colonialism froze fluid ethnic identities into rigid constructs and how these communities, once connected, became labeled as separate entities. Otieno dives deep into profound topics, such as the disproportionate toll of HIV on the Luo compared to the Luhya and the remarkable role of Luhya women in bolstering Luo populations during the malaria epidemics of the past. The author explores the transformative influence of missionaries and the rise of independent churches in Western Kenya, painting a compelling portrait of how religion reshaped culture. Beyond history, Kavirondo celebrates the vibrant contributions of Luos and Luhyas to music, activism, sports, and trade unions, offering inspiring glimpses into the lives of icons like Okatch Biggy, Owiro "Karl Marx" Christopher and GPO Oulu. This book is not merely a historical account; it is a celebration of resilience, coexistence, and shared heritage. It challenges the reader to reconsider the nature of ethnicity and learn from the unity of these communities, whose collective stories transcend borders. For anyone seeking to understand Kenya’s rich tapestry of culture and history, Kavirondo is an essential read.

While the day was dictated by sunrise and sunset, days were separated relatively, with ‘today’ being the anchor relative to other days. Months, on the other hand, followed the moon’s cycle and hence the twelve months of the year. Months were named relative to the weather of the time and the activities it dictated. For this reason, the names of months were largely descriptive. This provides an overview of the concept of time in Gusii and the rationale for naming the months in the manner they were.

African mothers have always been the toughest, fathers could be somewhat docile while grandparents are the spoilers. In this book I have compiled my experiences with my parents and other members of their family like in a typical African home and their influences on me, those with teachers in public schools whose dealings with us was like a military training and politicians who are the monsters on deck. It is often a hunt and escape, run and chase and catch and seize and thrash type of relationship. A relationship that made us to be continually aligned. A relationship that looking back is one to laugh at. That democracy is the freedom and right to vote, with the know how of choosing the candidate you want on the ballot papers but with the lack of wisdom of judging who is the right leader to choose, democracy, the sound system is failing. Should there be education on how to choose representatives?
