AS THE 2009 Norman Borlaug Award winner for Leadership in Agriculture, Dr. Juma Mukhwana is passionate about creating change for the better. As a veterinarian, he expressed his passion through caring for the animals. As a professor, he transferred that passion to others through teaching.
As a community worker, Mukhwana worked passionately with small-holder farmers to improve their agricultural productivity and profitability while conserving and protecting the environment. Dr. Mukhwana deserves this award for not only working passionately, but also creating real and meaningful change in the lives of those he has dedicated his life to.
