Spruce Avenue by Elias H.M Nabutete

KShs1,200.00 KShs1,000.00
In Spruce Avenue, crime crosses generations, connected by seemingly random events that rupture the stability of a town's history and future simultaneously. Sergeant Drake, as a law officer and troubled family man, must act to ensure peace and order, while in direct conflict with the present and sins of his past. Sins that have spawned a brand new generation of troublemakers fostering an unexpected rise in local crime, manifested by the actions of a dangerous trio that he has both unknown and unresolved connections to. As he acts on the new infestation of criminality, a darkness in the sheen of town's society, a decades old lie, created by hate and many juvenile mistakes at the centre of a tragic societal and familial upheaval, threatens to unravel everything he has worked for and plunge Spruce Avenue back into the trauma of its almost forgotten, long ago dark days where crime ran rampant.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.   Oloo and Aloo were guided to go forth and fill the earth, giving rise to our diversity as brothers and sisters in the world today. Many generations later, jo luwo rech, better known as the people who follow fish, found themselves at Nam Lolwe - Lake Victoria, as the source of this abundant supply. This book traces the historical journey of the Luo from the Garden of Eden to the land of Kush and describes the life of a member of the community from birth to rebirth in the circle of life. Inspired by stories from the author’s grandmother, it is a representation of her answers to his many questions on the ways of his forefathers and enables the descendants of Kush to understand how they found themselves where they are and the ancestors they have in common with the Dinka,  Maasai, Kalenjin, Samburu, and Turkana.

The Life and Death of Lord Erroll by ...

The true story of the life and mysterious murder of the most talked-about and glamorous member of Kenya's notorious Happy Valley set. Since Josslyn Hay, 22nd Earl of Erroll, was discovered dead in his car with a bullet through his head just outside Nairobi in 1941, speculation has not ceased as to the culprit and motive for his murder. The authorities seemed satisfied with the highly sensationalized trial of the only suspect, Jock Broughton, the cuckolded husband of Erroll's last lover, Diana. A not-guilty verdict was returned after a baffling display of confusing evidence and clumsy police work. Trzebinski, who has lived in Kenya for 30 years, was not satisfied with the conflicting gossip on the case, none of whose evidence adds up, including that of the celebrated "White Mischief" by James Fox. In this evocation of a glamorous, decadent and sinister life, Trzebinski uses her biographer's skill to unlock the mystique surrounding the man, and the mystery enveloping his death. Her investigations lead her to astonishing conclusions about the true motive for his murder and a conspiracy of confusion that finds its source in Whitehall's War Office.

The Mission of Apolo Kivebulaya: Reli...

KShs2,000.00 KShs1,590.00
Apolo Kivebulaya was a practitioner of indigenous religion and a Muslim before he became in 1895 a Christian missionary from Buganda to Toro and Ituri. He is still admired as a churchman and missionary in the Anglican churches ofUganda, Congo, Tanzania and Kenya, and is a significant civic figure in school curricula in Uganda. This book provides insight into religious encounter in the Great Lakes region of Africa, in which individuals like Kivebulaya remade themselves through conversion to Christianity and re-ordered social relations through preaching a transnational religion which brought technological advantage. In re-examining Apolo's life the author reveals the historic social processes and the cultural motivations which provoked religious and socio-political change in colonial east Africa. She explores the processes of his religious adherence, his travels and church planting, his commitment to Bible translation and its role in developing national sensibilities, and his engagement with missionaries, the Ganda political elite, and the peoples of the Ituri forest, as well as British and Belgian colonial polities. Kivebulayautilized Christian repertoires of memory-making - the Bible, hymns, prayers and fellowship - in creating communities of disciples, and was instrumental in creating new forms of Christian identity in the region, fashioned by levels of acceptance and resistance. By focusing on the role of indigenous agents as harbingers of change, the author offers a new perspective on the history of the northern Great Lakes region of Africa.
